Perry Lutheran Church's Core Beliefs
Bible
We believe the Bible to be the Word of God.
- That the Old and New Testaments are the were inspired Word of God by the Holy Spirit.
- That the Bible is the only reliable source and norm of the church's teachings and life.
god
We believe one God, existing in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
father
We believe in one God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
- God created and sustains us, our senses, and our intellect.
- God meets our daily needs and protects us, all through His mercy, without our earning it.
- We owe God thanks, praise, service and obedience in response to His gifts.
Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered, was crucified, died and was buried; He rose on the third day, ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of the Father, and will return to judge the living and the dead.
- Jesus Christ, true God and human, born of the virgin Mary, is our Lord.
- He redeemed us with His holy blood, freeing us from sin, death, and the devil.
- His sacrifice calls us to live in His kingdom, serve in righteousness, and share in His eternal reign.
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the promise of everlasting life.
- We cannot believe in Jesus Christ by ourselves; the Holy Spirit calls, enlightens, sanctifies, and keeps us in true faith.
- The Holy Spirit unites and sanctifies the church, offering forgiveness to all believers.
- On the last day, the Holy Spirit will raise all the deceased and grant eternal life to all believers, a certainty we hold dear.
Humanity
We believe that Adam and Eve was created in the image of God.
- That by the sin of disobedience they fell from God's grace.
- That since then humanity is in bondage to sin and we cannot free ourselves.
Salvation
We believe that salvation is by the sovereign grace of God.
- That by the Father, Christ willingly suffered a propitiatory death.
- That humanity is the grace through faith by the life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
